Comments from Scott Pegrum (Community Association President):
The National Capital Commission (NCC) has been pursuing an update to the 1996 greenbelt vision for a long time. The latest proposed concept plans have three options; with all options indicating the Valleystream Park area be designated as a “Buildable” site. The long and drawn out process that the NCC uses to incorporate public input is enough to try the patients of the Dali Lama. Public consultation has so far encompassed public forums with carefully crafted survey’s with prescribed answers to guide the respondents in a certain direction. Corralling in a diverse set of inputs does indeed require a masterful piece of bureaucratic manipulation.
The QGPCA will continue to pursue the protection of the Valleystream area as part of the NCC greenbelt. Perhaps you could make it one of your federal election issues by letting the candidates know how you feel.
