Tuesday
nights from 7:30 to 9:00, a class is held in Kripalu
Yoga. The class is lead by Gwen Anderson, a certified Kripalu
Yoga teacher. The class size is limited so registration is necessary. The fall
registration was held in September and the fall session runs for 13 weeks
through December. The fall session fee was $78 (and no taxes). That work's out to $6 for an hour-and-a-half session.
The sessions consist of
interesting stretch exercises but never, ever, to beyond a point with which you
are comfortable. You'll also get to learn the names of some stretch positions,
like 'rag doll', 'downward facing dog', and 'tadasana
(mountain)'. As well, the names of some movements, like 'sun
(and moon) salutation'. Naturally, there is much emphasis on breathing (praniam). All is done in a soft spoken, soothing, manner.
You need a yoga mat
(available at drug stores); a small, firm'ish,
pillow; a belt (a bathrobe belt is great); a light blanket for the delightfully
warm shavasana (cooldown);
and a water bottle.
The yoga class is organized
by the ever active Lesli Zanetti. You can reach
the instructor at Gwen
Anderson.
FYI:
This site has Animated
Yoga Stretches (go to Yoga Postures and scroll down). Never overexert
yourself. Some medical conditions should keep you from
doing these. Don't be foolish. Come to class.
